    Default Wellux Generator?

    Hello,

We have a 3kw 230v generator with Wellux on the top of the plate, but saying it is made by Welland engineering on the bottom. Ser is 11374/1, set no 2016, powered by a Petter AV1 diesel engine with a date of 8/60 also on the plate.

It is all mounted on a very robust 3 wheeled trolley. We have the engine running but it does not produce any power, all the brushes etc look intact.

Is there any infomation of this machine anywhere to enable me to carry out some testing also what was the original use of the set?

    Thanks Peter

    Dear Sir,

Well this must be one of the oldest running Welland Generators! (well not currently running!)

Petter AV1 diesel engine with a date of 8/60
Nobody here can remember the AV1 engine, even though two people have been here for over 30 years! We believe it may have been replaced by the AA1 some years later.

We have the engine running but it does not produce any power, all the brushes etc look intact.
If you have the engine running, that is good. Have you ever had it producing power?

Is there any infomation of this machine anywhere to enable me to carry out some testing also what was the original use of the set?
I am afraid we don't have any information that far back! I can say it is easily oldest set I have ever had enquired about.
Do you have the make and model of the Alternator. If so I should be able to find you something out about it.
The original use of the set I cannot help you with. Most of the sets were sold through dealers. I would have guessed it would have been used for a small house however or small business.

    Default Wellux Generator

    Hello Charlie,

Thanks for the message, to be honest I thought it a long shot to find any info after all that time!

The Petter AV is a 5hp @1500 rpm single cyl engine water cooled and is a lot larger than the AA1 which runs at 3000 rpm

The alternator is 4 pole, has 4 brushes 2 sliprings and a variable resistor in the field, all look in decent condition but dirty etc. I cannot find anything to indicate the make and model of the Alternator, any idea where this info be? Or do you have any info on something similar?

I looked around the forum and found a reference to some old data sheets but I could not access these as they seemed to be read only files?

The engine runs fine---it would be nice to get it generating again!

    Regards Peter

It would be nice! What are you using it for now then? It would normally be on a plate on the alternator itself. After almost 50 years I cannot say I am surprised it isn't there!

You should be able to download any file on the forum if you are signed in.

Did you manage to get parts for the engine still? It wouldn't be surprising if the Alternator insulation on the windings had failed after this amount of time. You might need to get the alternator rewound.

It would probably be cheaper to buy a new one. I assume it is attached by means of a flexible coupling?

Engine parts are easy as they were very popular and are long living and I think may now be still made (in India) for alternative fuels.

Agree the insulation may be down, will do some tests---but it's always nice to have a diagram!!

Sorry but the files on the older generators are either blank or download and then ask for a password which of course I do not have---have you tried them?

Have you got a link to the exact files you are after and I will have a look for you?

I am sure you will be pleased to hear that the alternator passed all the 500volt insulating tests and is now working well after cleaning the brushes, armature and field variable resistance!! So the oldest Welland set you have heard about is doing waht it was made for once again!

None of the links in the generator faq section work for me, they are either blank when I download or are password protected, see below

    Peter,

Thats excellent! Its nice to know of such an old machine running well!

I have been a little puzzled by the issues you described and I have been scratching my head for several hours! It seems that the documents you are trying to download have been corrupted; this looks like it happened when we changed platforms on our wesbite 2 years back!

I'm going to have a look and see if I can find anything else on them, but these were supposed to be the record for all time!

    Default Wellux Generator

What about adding a Class Model generator for reverse engineering? Upload your .cs file and generate a class model. It would be great for those who dont have Visio or other UML tools.

What are you asking for exactly?

What are you trying to achieve with the class model for reverse engineering?
