What if the generator / alternator loses excitation?
Then the magnetic field generated by the excitation fails then your generator will not produce power.
The voltage generated by the alternators directly related to this magnetic field and also therefore will not be there.
There can't be power if there is no voltage; proven by one of Ohm's laws. So if the excitation gets lost the generator won't produce power.
If your voltage is just low. Why not try this:
