Hi Miguel
A turbocharger, or turbo, acts as a compressor forcing more air into an internal combustion engine. It is a form of supercharger whose purpose is to increase the density/volume of air entering the engine allowing it to burn more fuel and ultimately create more power. However, a turbocharger has the compressor powered by a turbine, driven by the engine's own exhaust gases, rather than direct mechanical drive as with other superchargers thus tending to make it a slightly cheaper and more popular than other types of supercharger. However when used in car engines turbos suffer from 'lag' which is the time taken for the turbo to spin upto speed and start taking effect which is not a problem for the other types of supercharger because of there direct drive via the crankshaft.
