Default Yanmar L100 Series Diesel Engine

    Hi all,

Requesting help with a Yanmar L100 series engine.

From new this engine has not wanted to start at all. It snaps back so hard the recoil almost breaks your arm.

I have had it apart, all timing is spot on .... I'm at a loss.

Anyhow else got some clues ?

    Thanks Ben

    Hi Ben,

This sort of problem is usually a timing issue, when you say the timing is spot on how have you checked it? Have you checked the condition of the flywheel key? if this is damaged in anyway then it must be replaced, also is the flywheel torqued up to the correct tightness as a slightly loose flywheel could also cause this problem. Is the engine driving a generator as it is possible that the coupling on the end of the crankshaft has worked loose and could be causing this snatching problem.

    Hi all,

Alas I came to find the fault, from production the keyway was out by 3.5mm and the timing marks were offset as well ... as a result, ignoring all that has been taught to me, i did it by eye, first pull away she went, didnt miss a beat.

In Australia we have many import machines, I should have clarified it was a Kansai, not a Yanmar, however spooky, a spot on version. Since last post it has done 100 hours and still running strong

    Thanks Guys for your input

    Hi Ben,

Thanks for letting us know how it went! Pleased you got it going at last, thats fairly poor production quality to have the keyways out from new not surprised it took a bit of sorting!

Just a quick note on this topic, I know have come across a Kipor doing exactlly the same thing. Yanmar dont acknowledge or know of these machines in Australia. They are a spitting image of a Yanmar Diesel, with minor changes, stickers, de-compression levers and the throttle mechanism ... If you need parts guys, you need to go back to Japan, as i have found here and good luck understanding them. I have sent emails in english and japanese using googles translator program, they still think i am speaking french or something. Anyhow just thought I would let you know..

    Cheers ... Ben

    Hi Ben

I think the reason Yanmar dont aknowledge these engines would be that they are chinese copies of Yanmar made by the Kipor company and not Japanese orignals made by Yanmar so i would expect parts supply to be a bit troublsome for them.
