Should I buy one of these or a Perkins 1106C-E66TAG3 engine?

Well, there is a can of worms! You should compare the two engines and see which better suits your needs.
The Perkins 1106 is built in Peterborough, UK in the Perkins factory.
The TAD731GE is build in colonge, Germany, in the Deutz factory.
Both Perkins and Volvo engines are excellent for generator applications and they should give you plenty of service.
Both these engines are Tier 2 compliant for emissions purposes.
Do you need an emission compliant engine is a good question and I would therefore check. it depends where you are based and the rules in force. If you are in the UK or the EU you do not require emissions compliance for a stationary engine. That means it must be fixed in one place for its life and not moved. So not for hire, for use on different sites e.t.c
If not a 1006TAG2 Perkins is a good choice. Its cheaper, spares are cheaper and its bullet proof.
1006TAG might also be ideal if you only need 150kVA standby rating.
get some prices and compare them, then see what you think. If you have any more questions ask away!

See! Nothing like first hand experience!
As wellandpower said, the 1006TAG2 is bullet proof generally, a very popular engine and has been around a while (even longer if you consider this model was added later but it's a rejigged 1006TAG!)
The 731 is essentiLly aDeutz engine, I think the 1013 range. It's got an older style EDC type ECU and I've not really heard anything bad about them.
