Thread: Volvo penta tad1641ge synchronizing using j1939

Default Volvo penta tad1641ge synchronizing using j1939

Im using gensys 2.0 to parallel the volvo penta to the mains. I think volvo penta has ems2 , for which the speed can be externally controlled only canbus via j1939 protocol. If i set the rated speed in the controller, will my controller interact with the volvo to adjust the speed by itself and if i try to increase the speed will it be possible??? Or is the j1939 protocol used only for protections???

I have never used a GenSys controller with CANBUS, does it not have a manual?

The J1939 protocol offers fine speed adjustment down the CAN link, so you can move it normally only by around 5%. (So for example using the fine speed adjustment you cannot switch between 50-60Hz).

The rated or as DeepSea call it "nominal" speed is the target speed for the controller. I would expect the controller to attempt to reach the nominal speed after the warm-up timer is complete. Have you tried it? did it work?

with DSE 7510 its possible to control the speed. u can adjust the SW1 and SW2 to adjust the speed. but for gensys im not sure. actually the priliminary design was to use the analogue outputs for spped and voltage control, but the generator was changed and they didn't inform us. so we have to use the j1939. i havent tried it before. if u have some experience pls share..

I personally have never used Gensys, only DSE.
I would guess when you connect to the CAN the gensys will control the speed. Who did you buy the Gensys off? Can they not help you?
