Default Engine cranks once then drops out

    Hi

My Aggreko generator will only crank over once then drops out in cold conditions, sometimes it starts in warm conditions.
It has a Deep sea electronics module ( not sure which model) but it is old. The problem has got slowly worse. I have tried new battery and starter motors with no luck.
    Any thoughts most appreciated.

It sounds like your battery might have been poor, are you sure you have replaced it with one that offers sufficient CCA (Cold Cranking Amps). If you don't have enough you will probably find you get this effect.

Did you buy it direct from Aggreko? Sometimes people reselling don't put the correctly sized batteries to start with. One of the best ways is to get a multimeter and measure the voltage across the battery as you crank the engine.
Your 12V battery should should start at around 14V and when craning maybe go to 9-10V. Much lower than this and you may have a problem with the size.

If the control module is still running OK, its not going to be the controller. The controller will no doubt power a slave relay to energise the start solenoid, if it can do this, then there should be no issue.

Is it a Perkins engine? If so what model? As many details as possible will help.

If you know what you are doing, you could even crank it manually, avoiding the module circuits to test it. If you are not sure, then its best to get someone in who can assist, as otherwise you might damage it.
