Cummins KTA50G3 Engine Running Slow
Hi,
I have a Cummins KTA50G3 Engine that is running slowly. It cranks, starts and runs but slow, only about 800RPM, whats up with it?

It could be a few things I would guess.
The Cummins KTA50G3 has a fuel solenoid and electronic governing.
The electronic govorning is controled by a brown box, usually mounted in the panel which takes an input from the magnetic pickup and outputs to the electronic governor.
You can adjust the electronic governor at the brown control box, there are two pots. One is for speed and one is for stability. Please read the Cummins engine manual on how to adjujst the speed of the KTA50G3. I believe the KTA50G8 is also fitted with a similar system.
The other possibility is that the KTA50G3 does not have power to the fuel solenoid. As far as i can remember this fact is not listed in the engine manual, but is essential to getting the set up to the right speed.
The fuel solenoid is earth return, so there is just one positive wire, which will normally run from the relayed "fuel" output on your panel. The fuel solenoid connection is located about 200mm (6 inches) from the connections of the electronic govornor towards the engine flywheel.
